3Ls Anthony Alvarez and Hannah Molitoris were named champions in the Texas Young Lawyers Association Regional Competition in Philadelphia on Feb. 14 and will compete in the national competition, to be held March 30 in Dallas.

Alvarez was named Best Advocate in the Final Round in which he competed.

Their teammates, 2Ls Yvette Tyson and Rachel Holt, were also undefeated in their first three rounds and came in second in a separate Final Round in the regional competition, which also featured teams from Temple University, the University of Pennsylvania, Villanova University, Duquesne University, the University of Pittsburgh, Rutgers University, Dickinson School of Law, Seton Hall University and Widener University. 

“Both teams performed extraordinarily well,” said Professor Gwen Roseman Stern, director of the Trial Advocacy Program, who coached the students along with ’12 alumni Michael Benz and Sam Haaz. “For 2Ls to reach the Final Round in a competition this tough is a remarkable achievement.”

Five members of the Moot Court Board who participated in the regional rounds of the Jessup International Moot Court Competition in Washington D.C. Feb. 11 through 14 placed among the top 8 of 19 teams. 3Ls Andrew Bull and Kate Mahoney and 2Ls Jayme Bronson, Immon Shafiei and Lauren Ibanez were named Quarter Finalists and received an award for the Fourth Best Brief in the Competition.

Diane Edelman, director of International Programs at Villanova University School of Law, coached the team.
